      I must be missing something here, because I cannot find a way to have a category set up as a Portfolio without getting some weird site effects. I see that any options for the layout of the Portfolio only apply to Pages, yet when setting up a “portfolio” you are asked which Category and if it should be excluded from the main page.

      So when I set a category as being “portfolio” then use my custom menu to navigate to that “portfolio” category, it defaults to no side bar four posts across. Which I could live with, but when you click on an individual post to read more about it, there is a ton of back-end junk that suddenly shows at the top of the post. Stuff like this, for example:

      Einstok Beer, an excellent Icelandic export. I love the simple, bold color palate, and the well-considered typography. I’ve been to Iceland once, if being in the airport counts. It was quite green.

      Then the post shows normally below all that stuff. My question is, is there a way to have a category be the portfolio and still control the display without having to make a page to display all of these categories in? Or does the portfolio option only work specific to a page, and not a category of posts?

      You can configure the number of columns in theme options or use a custom template. The content on single posts looks like a var_dump and is not added by the theme. Check to see if a plugin is not generating it.

      I didn’t see a way to configure just the Portfolio designated Category under Theme Options, but I did find another way to do what I needed – which was to exclude one category from the home page. I’m not sure why the var_dump only occurred on the category posts designated as Portfolio, but by removing that designation the back-end code went away.
