flexibility offered by the sidebar functionality of the theme, some things are a chore to set up. For instance, is there a way to globally set the footer sidebars for every type of template? Generally I think most people would want the same footer on every template but darned if I can find a way to do that without setting up each template individually.

I’ve also noticed the admin areas run much slower than most (simpler) themes, which exacerbates the above issue.

What specific admin page is running slower? Do you mean the theme options pages or the post editor? Some tabs like Web Fonts call external APIs so loading them takes longer and there’s no way aroud this.

So an option to select content for the footer and make it apply to all templates would do the trick.
