      I do have the slider working in my landing page, but the problem is that they’re showing on the blog/news page. Can’t they just be invisible? I mean, I obviously wouldn’t care if they’re technically posts, I just want the loop to skip them or hide/not display them. I can’t imagine what would be the point of making them be functional posts since they’re just pictures. And I don’t want my home page to be a portfolio. I want it to have static text under the slider. Surely that’s not absolutely impossible, even if the theme itself has to be modified somehow?

      ETA: Other alternative solution possibilities: 1. Can I sink sticky posts to the bottom instead of displaying them on top of the blog? I mean if they’re visible somewhere in the depth of my archive that would be alright. 2. If I must sacrifice the portfolio page to display the sticky posts, can I make that a sub page and leave my landing page as is? Will the posts then not show on the blog anymore?

      This is pretty much my situation too. I want my home page to be a Landing Page with slider, my “news” page to use the regular blog structure without slider posts showing at all, and the portfolio option available for other pages (also not showing the slider pictures). Somebody help us!

      You can get rid of comments by choosing Quick Edit under the page/post you want to remove comments on. There’s a check box there. If you want to eliminate recent posts on the home page but not on other pages, you can select a different page template (i.e. one without a sidebar).

      I tried the procedure in post October 6, 2012 @ 12:59 pm and it seems to have done the opposite of what I wanted. The slider pictures don’t appear on my landing page, but the posts containing those images are still on the blog page.

      I downloaded the Simply Exclude plugin but I don’t understand it and no matter what options I click, it doesn’t seem to do anything.

      Maybe? I made/inserted them into posts because that’s how I figured the slider mechanism works. But I don’t want them to be “real” posts at all. When I go to the blog page, I just want regular blog posts to show. I don’t want the slider pics to link to anything, necessarily. (If I ever do, I’d likely want them to link to pages, not posts).

      This is where I’m working on it:

      This is basically a sandbox area–though technically live, it’s not my main domain. I’ve used the demo pictures as my slider pictures for now. My own are being designed.

      Also, this is currently in a sub-directory (ippblog) rather than the root–I’m planning to change this on the main site, so that basically everything that’s not in the shopping cart will be handled by WordPress and the permalinks will be appropriately named.

      Thanks. That worked (and answered the unasked question about how the demo has those nifty subtitles). But my submenu items have disappeared. How do I get them back?

      ETA: If I select all pages, sub pages appear on the top level; if I don’t select them, they don’t appear at all.

      Thanks for your response, but alas, no. My home page with slider looks fine, my blog page still has Test 3 to Test 1 (the 3 test sticky posts) as the first 3 posts.

      If you go to “All Posts” and quick edit the posts with the featured images, you’ll see a check box to make the post sticky.
