Pinbard 1.0.7 is stable and a good platform. There is a lot more support threads about headers, etc available on this forum.

If, however you create a custom menu then you specifically add either a category, post, page, URL to the nav bar.
Look under Appearance, then Menu. Create a custom menu and then you drag and drop items into the nav bar menu, as well as nest them. After you do this, as Alexander says, a page can only be added to your nav bar only when you do this yourself manually.

Take a look at your “pages” and not “posts” and see if you have a page called “Home”.
I’m unsure what you did with the search icon. Yes, there is extra space between your social media icons and the nav bar. When you click the search icon you get the search bar and the social media icons drop down the an area between the banner and your nav bar. You removed the search icon but the function of the social media icons dropping down to just above your nav bar is still there, and therefore still takes up this space.

When you click on the search icon the search bar appears on the right side of the banner and the other social media icons will appear on the right side, on a line below your banner and above your nav bar.
Assuming your header text is turned off a banner width of 850 px will minimize the amount of free white space between the bottom of your banner and your nav bar to a single a blank line, which is used to display your social media icons when you click on the search icon.
If your banner is wider than 850 px the social media icons will be pushed down onto another line, further increasing the blank white space between the bottom of your banner and the top of your nav bar.

The Pinboard theme allows you to add a header banner graphic to your site, through the theme area in WordPress admin. To change the size of the banner you only need to modify the actual graphic file, and then upload it to Pinboard. The Pinboard theme is not modified in any way, so when a new version is published you would have no problems.@Kushif,
I am only working with the Pinboard theme, but I do not think the background image will show through the banner area. There are items in the theme that would go on top of your background. What you could do is get the background image file and create a graphic banner with the same image design. Reduced my banner graphic to 850 x 160, resulting in the social media icons moving from below the banner to beside the banner. The social media icons slide just as well. Using search the other social media icons move to below the search bar.
The space between the banner and the menu bar is markedly reduced and is looking much better.

The UI of the social media graphics are different. There is a slide mechanism for Facebook and Linkedin. You mouse over and the graphic changes (they slide upwards), giving you feedback about its function and to acknowledge your action.
The search function acts differently. You mouse over the search icon and nothing changes. You need to click on the search icon and the search bar will then slide to the left. Type in your search criteria and hit and your search results will return.
The feedback and actions of the Facebook and Linkedin social media buttons varies greatly from the UI of the search. Because the FB and Linkedin buttons are side by side with the search button, I thought that their actions would be identical, and was proved wrong. This would throw off users of my site, as it did me.

I did a file compare between the above version and Pinboard v1.0.7, and found all files the same size. What .php files did you change, as I can’t find any difference?
I am trying to solve the issue of too much space between the banner graphic and the black menu line. I have eliminated the issue of space between the banner graphic and the top of the screen.

Without anything in the header widget the default is a search box.
